What changed

A baseline was established at 0-0 with the No. 14 tag confirmed and Vanderbilt counting as practice only. New Oct. 28-30 buzz around freshman Caleb Gaskins and a Bob Cousy watch list nod reported by Yahoo Sports adds practice context without a countable result.

Why it matters

0-0 and No. 14 after a 26-9 finish with a 13-5 ACC mark, Miami carries buzz without a box score. Head coach Jai Lucas has paint answers and a backcourt with zero shared minutes, so Gainesville opens the truth serum.

What to watch

Watch assist-to-turnover ratio and defensive glass at Florida, against Alabama and at Texas. Clean control points toward an ACC top-four chase. Sloppy possessions point toward a mid-pack grind.

What would change our mind

The Year 2 leap fails if Miami repeatedly loses turnover and rebounding battles against high-major size through December, or if multiple forwards exit long term. One low-major blowout changes nothing.

The counterevidence

Zero shared regular-season possessions leaves half-court creation as projection, not identity, until Florida tests it.
Junior Marcus Allen sits outside rotation math after a disclosed non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis, with health first until Miami provides clarity.
Malik Reneau appears on a Karl Malone Award watch list noted by Yahoo Sports, single-source expectation without Miami clearance on availability, so frontcourt depth stays cloudy.
